Story: It was Turkish time. Bashi-bazouks attacked and burned villages in the Rhodopes. In one of them, the men went to the Aegean to graze their flocks. Bashi-bazouks understood that and they headed to the village. Women overheard that evil which threatened them and an old woman gathered all girls. She hid them in a cave high on Mount Karluk, there she covered them with bearskins and streaked their faces with charcoal. So she saved them from the Turks. When the shepherds returned from the Aegean, they understood that the old woman saved their beloved ones, so they found her, and asked her to take them into the cave. But there they saw the ugly, blackened women who were not their girls. While one girl recognized her boy, she went out, scrubbed her face from the charcoal and started singing:
"I'm Bella, Bella, yunache, / I am white, white, my hero/
I all made the world shine ... "
